As the holiday season approaches, these young athletes took time to think about the men and women who won’t be doing the same. Armed with markers, blank cards, and a genuine desire to make a difference, the team wrote heartfelt holiday greetings to be shipped overseas to Canadian soldiers. The U12 York-Simcoe Express boys took teamwork off the ice and into the community this past weekend, volunteering their time at the Aurora Superstore and Youth Hockey Day. The team helped collect donations for the Aurora Food Pantry, rallying incredible community support. By the end of the day, the boys filled over six vehicle trunk loads of non-perishable food items and raised $1,229 in monetary donations — a true testament to the power of teamwork and community spirit. The York Simcoe Express U12 AAA hockey team proved that teamwork extends far beyond the ice this Thanksgiving weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, the team hosted a community food drive at the Aurora Superstore, raising an impressive $1,229 in cash donations and collecting over $1,000 worth of non-perishable food items for families in need. All proceeds from the event will be donated directly to The Aurora Food Pantry, which provides essential support to local families facing food insecurity.
