Frequently Asked Questions Relating to Prep Skates and Tryouts
When are tryouts scheduled for?

Tryout schedules are now posted for all age groups on the YSE website.  Tryouts for YSE teams will commence September 10 and end on September 19.  Please check the YSE calendar for dates and times for each age group.

When will registration for Tryouts open?

YSE registration for tryouts will open once Permission to Skate (PTS) forms are available for the home centres from the OMHA.  It is anticipated that PTS forms will be available from home centres as of September 1.

In order to register with the YSE for tryouts, each player will need to register with their home centre to obtain a PTS.  This form will need to be uploaded during registration with YSE.  Please contact your home centre if there are any questions about obtaining your PTS.

How do I register for Tryouts?

This year, YSE is moving to a paperless registration process.  Eligible players who would like to tryout for a YSE team will need to register and pay online prior to the commencement of tryouts.  Please note, in-person registration will not be available the day of a tryout at the administration desk.

Please note, tryout registration for first round tryout skates will close 48 hours prior to the tryout you are registering for.  For example, if your player will be registering for a September 10 skate, the tryout registration for this skate will close on September 8 at midnight.

What are Preparation Skates?

Preparation skates are being offered to eligible U9, U10 and U11 players.  These skates are not a tryout and are not mandatory to attend.  They are being offered to help players prepare for tryout sessions.

How many preparation skates can I register my child to attend?

To ensure everyone that is interested in participating in a preparation skate has an opportunity to sign up for a session, eligible players will only be able to sign up for two skate sessions.

Registration for preparation skates will be made available online. It is anticipated that registration for preparation skates will commence September 1.

Who can attend the preparation skates?

Players whose home centres include Georgina, Aurora, Newmarket, EG, Schomberg and Bradford are eligible to participate in the preparation skates.
