YSE AGM Update
Submitted By Mercedes Ohayon on Monday, August 17, 2020
To all YSE members,

On Thursday, August 13, YSE held its 2020 Annual General Meeting via a Zoom call overseen by Sport Law and Strategy Group to assist with proper governance.

As mentioned, the YSE AGM was scheduled for May but had to be cancelled due to government restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The online AGM allowed YSE to proceed with business as we prepare for a return to hockey in September, albeit in a limited operation until provincial health and safety protocols allow for a full return to normal minor hockey.

Obviously, the details around the Ontario Hockey Federation’s Return to Hockey Plan were a key component of the update to members at the AGM. Members were introduced to YSE’s Return to Hockey Committee made up of member Peter Ferrante and YSE Board members Wendy Vickerman, Amanda Van Veen and Carl Cartwright. In cooperation with our coaches, the YSE Return to Hockey committee is helping lead the process of submitting our plan to the OMHA for approval so we can get back on the ice in September. As posted on the YSE website, registration is open only to players who were rostered to YSE during the 2019-20 season. Registration closes on Sunday, August 23 and we will communicate details of YSE’s programming to members in early September.

An important piece of business conducted at each YSE AGM is the election to the board for positions up that year. This year, the VP of Hockey, Secretary, Publicity and Events director positions were named. Congratulations and thank you to Wendy Vickerman (VP, Hockey), Graham Brown (Secretary), Kelly Sears-Jones (Publicity) and Sean Sprogis (Events) on being named to these positions. YSE also recognized Pat Colucci and Steve Smyth for their contributions and years of service to the association as they leave their positions of VP, Hockey and Publicity director respectively.

With Wendy’s move to VP, Hockey, it required her to resign from the Equipment Director position with one year remaining on the term. As a result, the YSE Board is posting that position to the membership so it can be appointed for the remaining year before it will be up for election at the 2021 YSE AGM next May. Any interested members can please submit their application for consideration for the position to YSE President Dave Haggith at [email protected] and Secretary Graham Brown at [email protected] before Friday, August 28.
Thank you to all members for your support as we work with our governing bodies and local municipalities to ensure a safe and healthy return to hockey for our players. We will provide finalized details of programming by early September and will continue to keep you updated over the coming months as the OHF and OMHA progress through the various stages as it works towards a full return to minor hockey operations.
