YSE Winter Clothing Drive
Submitted By YSE on Friday, October 19, 2018
On
behalf of the York Simcoe Express Executives as the Director of Community
Relations, I wanted to pass on my extreme gratitude to everyone who
participated in the winter clothing drive over the last few weeks. Jackie Tranter, a member of the Community
Relations Committee and parent from the Atom team was the driving force behind
this initiative and I thank her for that.
When I thanked Jackie she passed on her gratitude to not only everyone
who donated, but also to those who helped collect, sort, and deliver the items.
When we unite together it demonstrates our ability to make a difference in other people’s lives. In a short period of time the following quality used items were delivered to people who are very pleased.
147 – Children’s coats
40 - Children’s snow pants
49 - Children’s boots/ shoes
43 - Women’s coats
17 - Women’s boots/ shoes
66 - Men’s coats
21 - Men’s boots/ shoes
Total - 383 items plus 6 big bags of hats, mitts, scarves, hoodies, etc.
The Blue Door Shelter was thrilled to receive all of the donations, but due to lack of storage, they couldn’t take all the children’s winter coats. Approximately half the children’s coats stayed with the Blue Doors Shelter & the other half of the coats were donated to Blue Hill’s child & family centre. Blue Hill’s was beyond excited to receive the donation as their clients are in desperate need of winter coats for the children.
Barb from the Blue Door Shelters and JoAnne & Ann from the Blue Hills wanted to pass along their gratitude to all the YSE families for their generosity.
The winter clothing drive was a huge success and I thank everyone for participating.
