Congratulations to the YSE Minor Midgets on Winning the Wendy Dufton tournamnet
Submitted By YSE on Tuesday, October 10, 2017
Congratulations to the York Simcoe Express Minor Midget team, winners this weekend of the prestigious Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament in London. The Express, led by tournament leading scorer Quinton Byfield, came out victorious in the event that featured 42 of the top-ranked Minor Midget teams.

The Express featured four of the top six scorers in the tournament, led by top-ranked Byfield (13 goals, 4 assists); Ty Collins (5 goals, 10 assists for 3rd in scoring), Evan Vierling (5 goals, 8 assists for 5th) and Cameron Butler (6 goals, 7 assists for 6th), as they went undefeated in their eight games, including a 6-5 overtime win against the Mississauga Reps, who are ranked first in the province, in the semi-finals and a 6-1 victory over the North York Rangers in the championship game.

"Our focus from day one was to instill a defensive system that would complement the offensive strengths of this group," said head coach Mike De Pellegrin. "This tournament was a chance to match up against the province’s best and take our game to the next level. This championship was a result of our ability to battle adversity, commit to a team first mentality, and focus on the little things away from the puck."

This win in London represents the second straight championship at the Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament for the 2002 age group and their third straight appearance in the tournament finals. The York Simcoe Express Minor Midget team is currently 7-0 in their regular season with 63 goals for and 6 goals against and currently ranked fourth in the province.

Congratulations to the entire team from everyone at YSE!
