Be A Buddy Not a Bully Masks NOW AVAILABLE!
We are so proud of the BIMM /YSE U11 team and their younger YSE U10 "hockey family" for all the hard work they are putting into the Be A Buddy campaign.

The team wants to continue an initiative that started a couple of years ago by the novice YSE team whose goal it was to raise awareness of the effects of bullying and donate to causes that aid in the prevention of bullying. It was also a fundraiser for the team.

This year the U11 team will be at the Newmarket Real Canadian Superstore on Yonge street on November 23rd from 4pm-8pm selling their masks if you can get out to show your support.

Thanks to Sponsor support, this hockey season there will be TWO amazing campaigns. In November, they are selling Be a Buddy masks for $10 each or 5 for $40. The U11 team's goal is to donate $2500 of the proceeds to a local charity that supports victims of bullying. In February, the team will sell Pink Shirts in advance of Pink Shirt Day, with the same message and the same financial target. If they are successful, they will have raised $5,000 to help their community battle bullying! (Not to mention they will have also raised awareness and made all their parents so very proud!)

Here are some different ways the bullying takes shape that the boys continue to learn about:

1. Verbal bullying – name-calling, sarcasm, teasing, spreading rumours, threatening, making negative references to one’s culture, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, unwanted sexual comments.

2. Social Bullying – mobbing, scapegoating, excluding others from a group, humiliating others with public gestures or graffiti intended to put others down.

3. Physical Bullying – hitting, poking, pinching, chasing, shoving, coercing, destroying or stealing belongings, unwanted sexual touching.

4. Cyber Bullying – using the internet or text messaging to intimidate, put-down, spread rumours or make fun of someone.
