The York Simcoe Express U14 (2012-born) team had an impressive weekend at the Gloria Rints Silver Stick Finals which were held in Whitby, ON, from Nov. 27th - Nov. 30th.The team finished the Round Robin with only one 4-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies and a combined 22 Goals For and 1 Goal Against in their remaining 3 Round Robin games.
In Sunday’s Quarter Final the team bested the Toronto Junior Canadiens 3-2 to eliminate the top seeded team in a thrilling battle. However, the group was finally eliminated in the Semi Final game by Ontario’s top ranked North York Rangers when NYR was awarded a penalty shot with 1 minute remaining in a 3-3 tie game. The penalty shot goal proved to be the difference in a well-contested 4-3 loss. NYR went on to win the event.
The weekend marked a truly stunning performance for this team with a final 4 showing in a tournament which quite literally features the best 24 teams from Canada and the USA. This group clearly has lots to look forward to and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.
